INDIETRACKS
The Midland Railway Centre, Derbyshire, July 24-26
Set in a heritage steam-railway tourist site, this tiny festival is loved by anoraks of all sorts: indie kids, synth-popsters and train spotters. A large shed, a truck stage and a tin chapel are where bands with names such as the Marshmallow Kisses shake their thang before a fashion-conscious crowd. A steam train trundles up and down as, inside, bands warm up with acoustic sessions. Ripley is nearby should you need provisions, but cafe-style fare — jacket potatoes, pasties, fry-ups — is sold at cafe prices on site.
TIP: The Midland Railway Centre includes lovingly restored diesel and steam locomotives, and you might also want to check out the nearby farm with its pet llamas.
